Black Box is a flexible event venue concept designed around three distinct typologies: Crown Jewel, Premium, and Standard. Each venue format supports different audience scales, spatial hierarchies, and event experiences while remaining connected through a unified operational and brand framework aligned with SEVEN.
We were appointed to develop the interior wayfinding and signage strategy across all three typologies, shaping the user experience from arrival through to event spaces, concessions, circulation areas, and amenities. The project focused on balancing clarity, consistency, and adaptability across a modular venue system capable of supporting a wide range of event formats and visitor journeys.
Our approach established a scalable wayfinding framework that differentiates each typology while maintaining a cohesive navigational language across the wider Black Box family.

EXPERIENCE STRATEGY AND DESIGN
THE VENUE ECOSYSTEM
Black Box operates as a modular event venue model where each typology offers a distinct audience experience, architectural scale, and operational structure. Our process began with a detailed analysis of user journeys, circulation patterns, and operational flows across all three typologies to understand how visitors move from arrival through ticketing, security, concessions, and event spaces.
This research established the foundation for a flexible wayfinding framework capable of adapting to different spatial conditions while remaining visually recognisable across the wider Black Box system.
The user journey was studied through two key phases: arrival and access, followed by internal circulation. Mapping these experiences helped identify moments where users require information, reassurance, or orientation that informs the hierarchy, placement, and content strategy for all signage elements throughout the venues.
STRUCTURING NAVIGATION THROUGH TYPOLOGY
Our strategy focused on balancing consistency with differentiation. Path and flow studies were developed individually for Crown Jewel, Premium, and Standard venues, allowing navigation systems to respond directly to the scale, atmosphere, and operational needs of each typology.
Across all venues, we established a clear numbering system aligned with spatial hierarchy, coordinated lift identification logic, and comprehensive sign location strategies spanning primary and secondary information layers.
This structured framework ensures visitors can move confidently through each venue while allowing every typology to express its own architectural identity and experiential character.
IDENTITY THROUGH MATERIAL AND COLOUR
Each Black Box typology was assigned a distinct visual language rooted in SEVEN’s wider brand identity. Crown Jewel venues adopt a bold industrial expression using perforated panels, illuminated signage, large-scale numerals, and cut-out lettering to reinforce scale and presence.
Premium venues continue the industrial language through more refined detailing, balancing impact with restraint through layered materials, backlighting, and integrated graphic systems. Standard venues employ a simplified and efficient material palette using large-scale painted graphics and non-illuminated signage while remaining visually connected to the wider family.
Colour coding further strengthens differentiation across the system. Blue identifies Crown Jewel venues, red distinguishes Premium environments, and orange defines Standard venues. Typography, pictograms, and arrow systems remain consistent throughout, creating a cohesive and legible navigational experience across all formats.
